Statement of Faith
- We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament and New Testament are the inerrant, inspired, and infallible Word of God in the original manuscripts. God’s Word is the final authority for faith and life. 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1: 20-21
- We believe there is only one God, and He has chosen to reveal Himself as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28: 19, John 10: 30, Ephesians 4:4-6
- We believe man was created in the image of God and the sin of Adam (the first man) marred that image, creating an eternal divide between God and man. Every person is born in sin. Genesis 1:27, Romans 5:12, Romans 3:23
4. We believe the only way a person can have a true, forgiven relationship with God is through Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice on the cross. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary and conceived by the Holy Spirit. Jesus became man without ceasing to be God. Our right standing with God is made sure because of His literal, physical resurrection. John 1: 12-14, Ephesians 2: 8-9, Matthew 1:18, John 10:30, Philippians 2:7, Romans 4:22-25
5. We believe in the literal, physical return of Jesus to judge the living and the dead.1 Corinthians 15:51-57, Revelation 20:11-15, Matthew 25:31-46
6. We believe God offers eternal life as a free gift and that it must be received by faith alone through God’s grace alone. The life that comes from this gift is a permanent possession of the one receiving it. The free gift of salvation is in no way related to our works. Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:24, Ephesians 1:13-14
7. We believe the church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of believers on mission to enlarge God’s kingdom through the proclamation of the Gospel. The local church is autonomous, free of any external authority of control with exception to the authority of its head which is Christ. Matthew 28:19-20, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Hebrews 10:24-25
8. We believe believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper express our covenant with God. These acts are outward expressions of our salvation and not essential to it. Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38-41, Luke 22:19-20
Note: This Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of McClave Community Christian Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our administrative board is McClave Community Christian Church’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
